Product FAQs

Clear, practical answers about choosing, preparing and storing VitaLuma products. These FAQs are written for South African households and use metric measures. They provide general product information rather than individual medical advice.

Choosing and using superfood powders

How do I start using a new powder?

Follow the serving guidance on the product label. If the flavour is unfamiliar, begin with a smaller amount and build towards the suggested serving. Introduce one new product at a time so that you can judge its taste and how it fits into your routine.

Most VitaLuma food powders can be mixed into cold water, smoothies, plain yoghurt or amasi, oats and breakfast bowls. For practical ideas, browse our Guides & Recipes or explore the Ingredient Library.

Can a greens powder replace vegetables and fruit?

No. Greens powders are convenient ingredients, but they do not replace the variety, fibre, volume and eating experience provided by vegetables, fruit, legumes and other whole foods. South African food-based dietary guidance encourages eating a variety of foods and plenty of vegetables and fruit every day.

Use a greens powder alongside a varied eating pattern. Compare the options in our Greens Powders collection and read seven practical ways to use Super Greens.

What is the difference between Super Greens, wheatgrass and barley grass?

VitaLuma Super Greens is a twelve-ingredient blend containing barley grass, wheatgrass, kale, spinach, broccoli, moringa, spirulina, chlorella, parsley, alfalfa, matcha and ginger. Wheatgrass and barley grass are single-ingredient powders. A blend offers a broader flavour and ingredient mix; a single powder is useful when you prefer a simpler ingredient list.

For a direct comparison, see Wheatgrass vs Barley Grass.

Can I mix more than one VitaLuma powder?

Food powders can often be combined for flavour or convenience, but more ingredients do not automatically make a better serving. Start with the label directions, account for overlapping ingredients and avoid adding several unfamiliar products at once. Super Greens already contains multiple green ingredients and matcha.

If you use supplements or have an individual health consideration, ask an appropriately qualified healthcare professional before combining products.

Can I add the powders to hot drinks?

It depends on the product. Matcha and turmeric latte blends are commonly prepared warm, while greens powders are generally more pleasant in cold or room-temperature liquids. Avoid boiling water for green matcha because very hot water can increase bitterness. A practical starting point is water below boiling, followed by milk if you are making a latte.

Use the preparation directions on the specific pack because similarly named products can have different formulations.

Caffeine, ingredients and dietary needs

Which VitaLuma products contain caffeine?

Green matcha naturally contains caffeine. VitaLuma Super Greens contains matcha, and coffee-based beverages contain caffeine. Pure blue matcha made only from butterfly pea flower is not made from the tea plant and does not naturally contain caffeine.

Caffeine content varies with the ingredient, batch and serving size. If you are sensitive to caffeine, measure the serving, begin cautiously and avoid assuming that a product is caffeine-free because it is plant-based or described as natural.

Is blue matcha the same as green matcha?

No. Green matcha is finely milled tea from Camellia sinensis. Blue matcha is powdered butterfly pea flower, Clitoria ternatea. They differ in plant source, taste, colour chemistry and caffeine. Read our full guide to blue matcha vs green matcha.

Are all VitaLuma products organic?

No. Organic status is product-specific. A product described as organic should be assessed according to that product’s current label and supporting information; the claim does not apply automatically to the whole range. Check the product page and packaging for the exact wording.

Are VitaLuma products gluten-free?

Do not assume that every product is gluten-free. Ingredients, formulations and cross-contact risks differ. Wheatgrass and barley grass are harvested as young grasses rather than mature grain, but people who must avoid gluten should rely on the specific product’s allergen statement and relevant testing information—not the ingredient name alone.

If a gluten-free requirement is medically important, contact us with the exact product and batch before use.

Are the products vegan?

Many plant powders are made from plant ingredients, but suitability must be checked product by product. Capsules, flavour systems, processing aids and multi-ingredient blends can differ. Use the current label and product page as the authoritative source rather than assuming that the entire range has the same status.

Why can the colour, aroma or taste vary between packs?

Plant ingredients are agricultural materials. Cultivar, growing conditions, harvest timing and processing can produce natural variation in shade, aroma and flavour. Variation alone does not necessarily indicate a quality problem. Do not use a product if the seal is damaged or if you notice unexpected moisture, contamination or an abnormal odour.

Safety and individual suitability

Can I use VitaLuma products during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Suitability depends on the specific product, serving and your circumstances. Pregnancy and breastfeeding can change caffeine limits and the suitability of certain herbs or supplements. Ask your doctor, pharmacist or another appropriately qualified healthcare professional before use, and take the full ingredient list with you.

Can I take a product with prescription medicine?

Food ingredients and supplements can interact with medicines or be unsuitable for certain health conditions. We cannot assess an interaction safely from a product category or marketing name alone. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist with the exact product label, ingredient list, serving size and your medicine list.

Are VitaLuma products suitable for children?

Do not give a product to a child solely because it is described as natural. Children have different nutritional needs and body sizes, and caffeine-containing products require particular care. Use only products specifically labelled as suitable for the child’s age, or obtain advice from an appropriate healthcare professional.

Should I use more than the suggested serving?

No evidence-based rule says that more powder or more capsules will produce a better result. Stay within the directions on the pack unless a qualified healthcare professional who understands your circumstances advises otherwise.

Storage, delivery and support

How should I store powders after opening?

Close the pouch or container firmly, use a clean dry spoon and store it as directed on the label. Protect powders from moisture, heat and direct sunlight—especially during warm South African summers. Do not refrigerate a powder unless the label specifically instructs you to do so, as condensation can introduce moisture.

Where can I find the batch and best-before details?

Check the product packaging for the batch or lot reference and best-before or expiry information. Keep these details if you contact us about a product; they help identify the exact production batch.

Where does VitaLuma deliver?

VitaLuma delivers within South Africa. Delivery charges, thresholds and estimated timing can change, so consult the current Shipping Policy for the latest information before ordering.
